Position:         Designer/Patternmaker with Lectra skills

 

 

Our client consists of four NZ based business units with off shore partners specialising in design, manufacturing, testing and sourcing of personal protective equipment and associated products. The company has a long history of commitment to complying with recognised industry standards, health and safety, environmental and quality management systems. They are looking for a designer/patternmaker to join their busy and successful business.

You must have significant knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking and product development skills. You will need to be commercially orientated, technically competent and have hands-on practical problem solving skills. You need to have strong leadership and people management skills and the ability to communicate well on technical issues. You must have solid experience using the Lectra system.

 

  • Ensure a proactive and central role in the design and development of products including input and feedback at meetings with internal and external personnel where requested.   
  • Ensure strong communications relationship with factory management and personnel, safety apparel product manager, safety branch management and sales staff as appropriate.
  • Ensure strong leadership relationships in terms of garment design and specifications with all off shore supply partners.
  • Ensure the efficient and effective timeliness in responding to patterns and sample requests.
  • Document any changes to samples or patterns ensuring follow through to product specification documents.
  • Prepare, digitize and grade patterns ensuring images are verified on screen.
  • Work alongside production to ensure patterns are accurate and assist in looking for continuous improvement opportunities in garment construction.
  • Maximise yields of markers according to size range and quantities with due regard to manufacturing requirements.
  • Forward ‘mini marker’ patterns with piece and number information to the bundler, controlling any amendments where required.
  • Advise on all maintenance requirements and contracts with Lectra system ensuring they are current and maintain awareness of software developments.
  • Ensure the department is fully up to date with relevant product standards that dictate garment design, materials required and garment construction.
  • Work alongside apparel manager and business development manager in ensuring a constant flow of research and development to ensure the product offer is always market leading.
  • Upskill current staff through constant systems, process and industry training.
  • At all times adopt safe procedures and practices in accordance with health and safety procedures. 
  • Secondary with preference to qualifications in general garment design and pattern making.

Work Experience:

  • Significant experience within the garment industry, with strong pattern making skills. Knowledge of industrial garment industry and materials beneficial.
