Apparelhr are seeking an outstanding Designer to join our clients design team. The successful applicant will have a fashion design degree from a respected institution as well as 2 years experience in a similar role.

The Design position covers the full development process. It is a key liaison between design, and production.  The Designer must make sure that design adheres to the development timeline and is responsible for budget, accuracy, and execution of samples.

The Designer will work as part of a collaborative design team in the creation of seasonal collections.  The design process is led by the Senior Designer.

As part of the position you will need advanced Photoshop and Illustrator skills, strong technical drawing abilities and be capable of communicating silhouette and fit details with pattern makers and design collaborators.

As a person you will be creative, dynamic, highly driven, motivated and organised, while having a strong attention to detail.

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

Research based on Senior Designers’ brief for the season – mood boards, fabrics, silhouettes, and styling direction.

Specifying and researching trims.

Print manipulation and development.

Accountable for the management of the critical path of the collection and insuring all deadlines are kept both by the workroom and the external factories.

Communicate and direct patternmakers and factories on samples.

Hand drawings and technical drawings for pattern maker and production use.

Co-ordinate weekly fittings with Senior Designer – organise follow up activities with patternmakers.

Review samples with a focus on product execution, consistency of details and an understanding of Designs aesthetic intent.

Work closely with the fabric, trim and knitwear suppliers plotting in relevant delivery dates into the critical path to ensure materials are in work and on track for deadlines.

Ordering sampling fabric and trims.

Accurate understanding of pattern measurements, garments measurements and acceptable tolerances.

Ensure at each phase of development samples are constructed and finished to the highest standards and fit.

Manage all costing activities.

You will be responsible for ensuring that quality levels in measurement spec and finish are met.  Attention to detail and technical knowledge are key to this role.

Ability to solve garment issues and suggest alternatives for finishing.

Ensuring that all sales information is up to date.  Accountable for the information in the sales lines sheets.

Handover of collection to Production Manager within timeframe – including sample, detailed spec sheet and construction notes.

General design room tasks.

Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Ability to manage own time.


Ability to work well under pressure, and meet critical deadlines.
