Our client is a highly successful, NZ-owned apparel business. They are looking for a full-time Graphic Designer to join their busy and dynamic team.

The Role:

This position involves being responsible for the creation of original artwork for garments, fabric print repeats, label design, embroideries, and logo design as required, ensuring the well loved design aesthetic of the company.

Key Accountabilities:



  • Design and/or recreate artwork for fabrics, logo prints, embroideries or other aspects of designs for customers’ consideration.
  • Work with Designers on special visual projects relating to trends, colour, styling, and specific customer presentations.
  • Regular research into trends, fashion, and forecasts using tools including but not limited to internet, magazines, fashion forecast documentation and store visits to facilitate the preparation of selling documentation appropriate to individual customers and local shopping.
  • Design and illustrate labels and swing tickets as required by the Design team.
  • Produce new colour ways for fabric, prints and embroideries.
  • Create original artwork for allover and placement prints. It is imperative that the artwork is original.
  • Assistance as required by the Design team in preparation of their storyboards including scanning of garment and fabric images.
  • Any additional art-related tasks as required.
  • Assisting the team with the preparation of artworks for production.
  • The ability and knowledge to use Illustrator, Photoshop or Micrographics.
  • (Preferably) a qualification in art and design.
  • Freehand drawing experience.
  • Spec drawing experience.
  • Work experience in clothing/fashion  industry
  •  Complete Tasks – Is able to complete the required activities within the agreed timeframes.
  • Develop Strategies – Has an ability to create an inspiring vision when developing artwork
  • Develop Expertise – Continues to learn and keep abreast of the changes in both fashion trends and information technology. Is seen as the key contact for artistic knowledge within the business.
  • Organise Resources – Is able to effectively manage own time and the resources provided to produce the required outputs for the role.
  • Convince People – Is able to persuade and negotiate with others when presenting information in a manner that is appropriate to the situation
  • Generate Ideas – Has an ability to generate new ideas and keep up with trends/fashion.
  • Articulate Information – Is able to present and explain ideas to internal and external customers
  • Cope with Pressure – Remains calm under pressure and does not take issues personally when frustration occurs. Has an ability to work through the frustration.
