Position:                     Production Manager

Location:                    Auckland

One of NZ’s iconic fashion manufacturing and retailing companies is looking for a Production Manager. The Production Manager is responsible for managing the timely production, production planning and technical details of the company’s collections, (onshore and offshore) to approved company quality standards and ensuring that production deadlines are met.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Liaise closely with CMT’s, both overseas and local, to ensure sufficient production capacity is available to meet the company’s requirements and that company quality standards are maintained at all times.
  • Responsible for overseeing work done by CMT’s and other contractors, sourcing, recruiting and training new CMT’s as required. Quality assurance is carried out on all stages of production, including factory visits in China.
  • Maintain and develop supplier relationships, locally and offshore.
  • Travel to destinations specified for business purposes for range development, sampling and production issues.
  • Establish and implement plans to improve company best practice for product quality standards.
  • Oversee all technical aspects of designs from conception to delivery.

  • Compile and authorise spec sheets (Excel), technical drawing (Illustrator), graded specs, samples and sundry sheets prepared by Garment Techs / Designers.
  • Responsible for the fit, fabrication and construction of completed production. Managing fit meetings with Garment Techs and signing off styles.
  • Oversee the ordering of fabric by the Production/Distribution Assistant and ensures that deliveries are received on time.
  • Responsible for setting up and ensuring accurate records are maintained for all aspects of garment production (fabric, style, and costings)
  • Responsible for preparing costings for all ranges negotiating with suppliers to obtain best results / profit margin.
  • Work with Financial Controller on bi-annual forecasts.
  • Review foreign currencies and adjust exchange rates accordingly, to ensure appropriate forward cover is maintained.

 

Skills, Experience and Attributes Required:

 

  • Minimum of 5 years previous production experience in the apparel industry.
  • Comprehensive understanding of offshore and local production.
  • Experience in communication and liaising with manufacturing in China is essential.
  • Advanced knowledge and competency using Adobe Suite, especially Illustrator.
  • Full garment construction ability.
  • Ability to sew (sewing not required but the ability to do so would be advantageous to the position).
  • Must be competent in creating full garment specifications in Excel.
  • Costings and critical path management capabilities.
  • Knitwear knowledge.
  • Denim knowledge would be advantageous.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Work well within a team and autonomously.
